Every Saturday night we open the Nocturne kitchen and make a delicious three-course meal for two (created by our award winning culinary team) that we invite you to enjoy while you enjoy our weekly Live-Stream.

This week we feature The Spencer Zweifel Quintet feat. Briana Harris - alto, Joel Harris - tenor, Seth Lewis - bass, Brian Claxton - drums. This dynamic ensemble combines strong individual playing into a cohesive group sound. Inspired by the classic quintets led by Charles Mingus, Horace Silver, Chick Corea and Dave Holland, Zweifel’s quintet draws from all corners of the jazz world. Swing, hard bop, free music, and the Great American Songbook come together for an exciting and fresh musical experience. The majority of the repertoire is originals by the band supplemented with standards that have personal meaning to the members. In September of 2020, the group tracked their first full-length record.

Since forming his first group at age 16, Spencer Zweifel has become a regular member of the Front Range music scene. Zweifel has performed in a wide variety of genres, including with the Brian Claxton Quintet, the funk-pop band Swerve, the Manabi Salsa Band, and the Burroughs. Coming up in the Fort Collins jazz scene, Zweifel performed regularly in the house bands at both Ace Gillett’s and Jay’s Bistro. He leads his own quintet and organ trio, both which perform throughout Colorado.

Spencer graduated in 2019 with a degree in jazz studies from the University of Northern Colorado and won ‘Best pop/rock soloist’ in the 2018 Downbeat Magazine student awards. Spencer is currently pursuing a Master’s in jazz studies at William Paterson University, where he has studied with Bill Charlap, Aaron Diehl, and Geoffrey Keezer. In 2020, Spencer moved back to Colorado, where he completed writing and recording his first quintet record as a leader.
