“Tissues” is a curated selection of found photographs made in the late ’70s and early ’80s. These images, stripped of their context and utility, are transformed into a showcase of incidental aesthetics. Abstracted representation resides within a window, conveying a glimpse of someone in a time that once was. These frozen remnants of time evoke intrigue and inquiry, giving new light to the lives they encapsulate. This exhibition challenges our notions of objective reality and exposes our cognitive biases, calling on alternative perspectives to formulate new contexts.

LIFT

LIFT is a series focused on examining found photographs—lifting images from obscurity and presenting them in new forms. “Tissues” (2021) is the initial launch of this venture. There’s more to come soon.

About The Artist
Estevan Ruiz is a designer, artist, and musician based in Denver, CO. While known for his practice as a street photographer, Estevan is reinforcing his passion by delving into conceptual aspects of photography and investigating how we experience images and what they communicate to us. This newfound perspective has led him to explore other forms of expression through appropriation and image-making.

Estevan curated the group show “Public Domain” for the 2019 Denver Month of Photography and is making his solo debut with “Tissues” (2021). He attended Metropolitan State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in communication design.
