Art meets auto, at the new Frisian Motors Auto Gallery. In an unexpected move for a car dealership, Frisian Motors has established itself as a place to shop for quality pre-owned cars and to experience and acquire innovative art from well-known and emerging artists. Among the colorful Subarus is equally colorful work by Michael Gadlin a local artist who exhibits locally, nationally, and internationally.

The public is invited to check out the cars and the art in this exciting new space. Meet Mr. Gadlin on February 7, 5-9 pm during a First Friday Artist Reception at Frisian Motors that will feature music, a food truck, and a fun community vibe. Or visit during regular showroom hours, Tues - Sat 9 am-5 pm.

“Among The Debris I Find Myself” is a look into Gadlin’s personal history and is on view in a car dealership space that magically complements his creative life. Michael’s father owned a successful repurposing business in Denver, and he often helped his father collect scrap metal and used tires from around the then-gritty warehouse district, now known as RiNo. The works in the show feature imagery that directly reflects these memories with his father and the impact it made on his art and practice. For example, the tire icons in several pieces and the raw canvas presentation style speak to the “urban, street art scrappiness” of this series.

Gadlin has worked hard since graduating from East High School. He received a B.A from Pratt Institute in New York, and later went on to train at the prestigious La Napoule Art Foundation (LNAF) in the south of France. He was the youngest artist ever to receive the “Cherry Creek Art Festival: Best of Show”, has a piece in the permanent collection at the Kirkland Museum, and has received dozens of public and private art commissions. He is represented locally by K Contemporary Gallery.
