Compensation (Budget, Stipend, etc):
$50,000 total budget (artist fee, labor, materials); $1,000 stipend for finalists

In honor of 2026’s milestone anniversaries—250 years of the United States and 150 years of Colorado—a private family foundation is seeking a Colorado-based artist or artist team to create a large-scale tapestry that tells the story of the state. This commissioned work will reflect Colorado’s past, present, and future through the people, places, and events that have shaped it, offering an accessible and visually compelling entry point into Colorado history.

The selected artist will receive a $50,000 budget (inclusive of artist fee, labor, and materials) to produce a tapestry between 9–12 feet high and 5–9 feet wide, with fabrication taking place from June through November 2026. In addition to creating the artwork, the artist will participate in statewide community engagement activities and contribute to narrative elements that support the final installation.

This opportunity is open exclusively to Colorado-based artists with demonstrated experience in textile or large-scale fiber work. Finalists will be selected to develop a concept proposal and engagement plan, each receiving a $1,000 stipend.
