Geovanni Barrios, the current Resident Artist at FLORA in RiNo ArtPark, discusses his interdisciplinary practice and the tensions surrounding belonging, identity, and American institutions. Drawing on his formative experiences with Scouting America and his archival research into the history of masculinity and youth programs in the United States, Barrios examines how institutional rituals and cultural narratives shape ideas of “Americanness.”
The talk will explore how his experiences as the child of immigrants and a gay man inform his work across painting, drawing, sculpture, performance, and historical research. Barrios is the inaugural artist in RMCAD's college-wide FRICTION Series.
