The Town of Superior has partnered with Street Wise Arts to produce the Superior Mural Festival in its up-and-coming downtown area, located just off Highway 36 and McCaslin Blvd.
Street Wise Arts is a nonprofit organization based in Boulder County, Colorado. After producing seven mural festivals with over 150 murals in Boulder, Colorado, we are excited to partner with the Town of Superior for the next iteration of our renowned and respected mural festival model, celebrating artists and community through public art installations and events.
ABOUT THE TOWN OF SUPERIOR
The Town of Superior is a quaint small town of 14K nestled in between Boulder and Denver. With its roots in agriculture and coal mining, the four-square mile town has an ample amount of open space and number of parks, with unparalleled views of the Flatirons and Rocky Mountains. The Town recently achieved a Bird City Colorado designation in 2025 and has also been recognized as a Tree City USA for 26 years.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The application is a Request for Qualifications (RFQ). We are not requesting mural proposals or sketches at this stage. Selected artists will be invited to develop concepts in collaboration with the Street Wise Arts team after the review process.
Theme:
The Town of Superior and the Cultural Arts committee has selected a theme of nature and regrowth. Artists should consider contemporary, unique, and creative approaches to the theme within their mural design if selected for this festival.
Eligibility:
Open to Artists based in Colorado and the United States. No travel stipends are available. Artists must be at least 18 years of age at the time of the festival. We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds, identities, ages, ethnicities, genders and socio-economic status.

Selection Process:
Submissions will be reviewed by the Town of Superior Cultural Arts committee and Street Wise Arts staff. Artists will be notified of their invitations in June.
Walls:
We have approximately ten spots available to paint, ranging from small concrete benches to large underpass greenway walls. You may view the walls here: https://streetwisearts.org/festivalwalls
Stipend:
All selected artists will be paid a stipend to cover time and materials consistent with Street Wise festival rates and dependent on wall size. Walls range from approximately 60 square feet (concrete benches) to approximately 600 square feet (major underpasses) and stipends range from $800 - $7,000. Travel stipends are not available.
Safety:
Artists will be required to submit a Certificate of Insurance upon acceptance. Walls requiring lift access require current OSHA lift certifications.
Artist Exhibition and Panel Discussions:
All invited artists will be invited to participate in a Street Wise Arts Exhibition and panel discussions, held at the festival headquarters in the Civic Space in downtown Superior.
