Black Lawrence Press invites immigrant writers in the United States to submit full-length poetry, prose, or hybrid manuscripts for consideration in its Black Lawrence Immigrant Writing Series. The series provides a dedicated home for new immigrant writing and is overseen by an editorial and advisory board composed of immigrant writers and authors whose work explores the immigrant experience.
Poets and authors at any stage of their careers are welcome to submit. Eligible writers must identify as immigrants and be living in the United States at the time of submission. Manuscripts may be poetry, fiction, nonfiction, or hybrid texts combining poetry and prose. Poetry manuscripts must be at least 45 pages, while hybrid manuscripts must be at least 100 pages; chapbooks are not accepted.
Up to two manuscripts per author may be submitted each year. Submissions are accepted year-round, with selections made during June and November reading periods. One manuscript is typically selected during each reading period, for up to two books published through the series annually.
Selected authors receive publication through Black Lawrence Press, marketing support, a standard royalties contract, and a $500 travel stipend that may be used for book tours or at the author's discretion. There is no submission fee.
