Colorado Asian Pacific United (CAPU) and Urban Villages, are seeking proposals from artists interested in designing 8 traffic bollards located in LoDo to highlight the stories and cultures of the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) community in Colorado with a particular focus on the history of Denver’s Historic Chinatown. Coloradan and AANHPI artists are highly encouraged to apply. Artists are welcome to propose for just one bollard, or more than one.

The 8 traffic bollards are located in the Sugar Block alley that was once the heart of Denver's Historic Chinatown. The alley can be found at the Sugar Building 1530 16th St Mall, Denver CO 80202. Each bollard is 48.5" tall and 6" in diameter. Circumference is 18.85" and total surface area 942". They are made of concrete and currently covered in black paint.

Selected artist(s) will be compensated $250 per bollard, up to $2,000 total. Submission deadline July 2024. Please send Artist Resume/Portfolio and a brief statement (500 words max) detailing how many bollards, if design is uniform or unique to each bollard, how design connects to history of location, how design connects to present AAPI community, maintenance plan, extra budget items, and availability summer 2024.
