Frisian Motors Auto Gallery continues with its inspired model of mixing art and auto sales with a new exhibition featuring paintings by Delton Demarest and photography by Chad M. Julius. “Art & Cars RiNo” runs March 1–April 26 in the expansive auto showroom at 3440 Walnut St. As Denver natives, each artist brings a unique point of view and style to interpreting the urban landscape of their life-long stomping grounds. The public is invited to gather and celebrate during the Artist Reception on First Friday, March 7, 5-9 p.m., with a chance to enjoy live music and visit with the artists and acquire artwork. A food truck will be on-site during the event. The show is also on view during regular showroom hours, Tues – Sat, 9 a.m.- 5 p.m.

Demarest is an oil painter, muralist and illustrator producing both fine art and commercial work. His works in this show are primarily plein-air and span nearly twenty years of his field observations across Denver, translating the unseen details of abandoned or less traveled spaces. Some of these settings have since transformed into unrecognizable environments as the city has grown and changed. Demarest received foundational training from New York’s Pratt Institute from 2000-2001, later earning a BFA from the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design in Denver where he graduated summa cum laude in 2005. He has received numerous awards from the Colorado Plein Air Festival and has had select showings with many local galleries. This show at Frisian seamlessly and serendipitously combines Julius’ passion for art and his hometown, with his twenty-five years of professional expertise in the automotive industry currently focusing on automotive finance. As a trusted advisor to the dealership and a professional photographic artist he is the perfect match to showcase his talents in this space. In his artwork he uses his eye for detail and light to portray his unique perspective of the Mile High City and pays acute attention to his surroundings, expertly catching the essence of both the unexpected and more recognizable moments of beauty. He makes his images utilizing all forms of photographic equipment with the goal of telling stories that connect with the viewer and evoke emotion. Julius prefers to edit his images in-camera, composing with intention rather than relying on post-production to finalize his vision, printing on multiple mediums including canvas, metal and wood.
