Denver cartoonist C. Clyde discusses STEPPERS, a black-and-white neo-noir comic co-written with Henry Miller that reimagines Mickey Mouse after his release from prison. Set in a world where his image has been repurposed to sell a culture he no longer recognizes, the story examines labor, legacy, poverty, and the power of reclaiming cultural icons.
The evening combines a reading, craft talk, and conversation. C. Clyde will read the opening chapters with projected pages, then break down the comic’s visual storytelling, including panel rhythm, negative space, and the influence of 1928-era rubber-hose animation. The program also includes a preview of Volume 2, audience Q&A, and a book signing. Books will be available for purchase, with the author offering sketches in copies.
