Hermetic Fables: Exhibition Opening Reception | Friday, February 6, 6 - 9 PM

Artists: Daniel M. Granitto, Ashely Ivye, and Brady Dollyhigh

The artists in Hermetic Fables draw from the legacy of surrealism, exploring psychological depths of the subconscious through personal iconography and intuitive process, alongside archetypical forms of the collective conscious recounting regional folklore, myth, religion and contemporary pop culture in visionary ways.

Their imagery suspends waking logic and instead demands that we acclimate to unfamiliar orders unique to each artist. While the works in this exhibition reveal a strong sense of the artist's personal vocabulary, each artist engages the viewer through their selective use of accessible points of cultural connection. Ivye moves through ancient fables, lore, and the mythology of Southern American culture, treating inherited stories as frameworks for her work filled with ambiguities and raw emotion. Granitto situates his work alongside his Catholic faith and fatherhood, where devotion and vulnerability collide with moral tension resulting in imagery suspended somewhere between disturbing figuration, and delightful play. Dollyhigh offers a distinctly Gen-Z surrealism shaped by the visual language of the internet and digital spaces, with game-like blocks and first-person POV recurring in his visual vocabulary. Nostalgia and memory remain central to his work, reflected through bizarre juxtapositions and unsettling symbols: cartoonish smiling faces, a dead spider, pyramids, and an uncanny use of repetition that becomes memetic.
