With this project, Jonathan draws from his 20+ years in the New York Salsa and Latin Jazz scene. Powell has performed and/or recorded with the likes of Carlos Henriquez, The Miguel Zenon Big Band, Arturo O'Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, Tito Puente Jr., Ricky Martin, Oscar Hernandez and Spanish Harlem Orchestra, as well as being a member of Eddie Palmieri's Salsa Orchestra and Afro Caribbean Jazz Sextet for over a decade. Powell will be joined by some of Denver's finest for this night of blazing Latin Jazz : Victor Mestas Perez - piano, Matt Smiley - bass, Alejandro Castano - drums, Leo Munoz-Corona - congas, Jonathan Powell - trumpet/flugel

Originally from Largo, Florida, trumpet player Jonathan Powell moved to New York City in 2001. In 2003 he earned praise for his participation in Sam Rivers Fluid Motion. The same year he formed the group Nu Sangha and released “Transcend”. The band's newest release “Beacons of Light” earned a four star review in Down Beat. In 2021, Jonathan relocated to Colorado to take a position with the US Air Force Academy Band. Since his move to Colorado he has co-released a record featuring 10-time Grammy award winner Eddie Palmieri titled “Eddie Palmieri presents: Solar Sonido”. Jonathan has taken part in more than a dozen Grammy Nominated and Grammy Winning albums. In 2016 he signed on with Yamaha to be an exclusive endorsee of Yamaha trumpets and Flugelhorns.
