40 West Arts District, the West Colfax Community Association, and the Lakewood-West Colfax Business Improvement District seek an artist for a one-year residency serving the West Colfax community. In exchange for a rent-free studio, the resident will lead beginner-friendly arts programming for youth, families, and seniors, submit work to gallery exhibitions, and participate in district events.
Timeline:
- October 25, 2026 — Application deadline at midnight
- Early November 2026 — Applicants notified, approximately two weeks after deadline
- Late November–early December 2026 — Final resident selected
- Early January 2027–December 2027 — Residency term
Eligibility:
- Individual artists age 21 or older
- Students and full-time employees may apply, provided they can meet residency responsibilities
- Approximately five hours of commitment per month
Responsibilities:
- Lead at least six community arts programs, workshops, installations, or other approved creative offerings during the residency
- Submit artwork to at least four 40 West Gallery exhibitions; submission fees are waived
- Host open studio hours at most First Friday opening receptions
- Maintain an active presence at district events
Additional Information:
Rent-free studio space of approximately 150–350 square feet, valued at an estimated $4,800–$16,800 annually. Artists are responsible for utilities and other studio-related expenses, including internet, cleaning, and trash removal.
