RiNo Made Salons: The Business of Being Creative:
Tackling Legal Matters for Creative Entrepreneurs and Arts-Based Businesses

Launching and successfully managing any business is a lot of work, but this workshop will provide artists, writers, designers, musicians and any other creative entrepreneur with key information on a number of legal issues that are particularly relevant to arts-based businesses. Bring your business questions and real-world experiences to help guide the discussion.

About the Speaker: Shirin Chahal, Attorney at Law Offices of Daniel T. Goodwin. Shirin counsels on a variety of general business issues for both startups and established small businesses. She practices in the areas of businesses formation, organization, and operation, and helps companies identify areas of potential liability to mitigate risks in their day-to-day business transactions. Prior to becoming an attorney, Shirin worked in the entertainment and technology industries. She continues to offer her services to artists, musicians, designers, authors and other creative entrepreneurs. She currently serves as a Co-Chair to the Rocky Mountain chapter of the Copyright Society of the USA. She serves as a volunteer attorney for Colorado Attorneys for the Arts (CAFTA) and Boulder County Legal Services She also serves on the Board of Directors of the Boulder County Arts Alliance (BCAA) and the Advisory Board for the Nederland EcoPass Improvement District.

About CBCA: CBCA-Colorado Attorneys for the Arts (CAFTA) serves individual artists, cultural nonprofits and creative businesses across Colorado. Our definition of “arts” and “creative” is open and inclusive. Shake off the winter doldrums and jump into spring with this Denver Public Library knitting group. Bring any portable handwork and hang out with like-minded crafters for an evening. Meeting in the brand new Zeppelin Station -- there are lots of libations and delicious snacks to be had before or during the workshop. Cast on!

We don’t often take the plunge to make a full garment in Madame Defarge’s Salon, but for this late winter workshop, our expert teachers are going to help you make a chic cardigan. You’ll learn or hone techniques like gauge swatching, picking up stitches, finishing and blocking. This workshop will run through April to allow students a generous amount of teaching and knitting time. Materials list will be sent with registration confirmation. Visit our new permanent RiNo Made store located at Zeppelin Station!

RiNo boasts over 400 creatives working in the district today, including local artists, makers, designers, culinary artists and more. The RiNo Made store features work made exclusively by artists and makers within the RiNo Art District. RiNo Made’s goal is to show off the creative talent in the district at a permanent location, as well as create a broader platform for creative businesses to showcase their work. As part of this effort, the District will provide monthly salons dedicated to helping artists and creative entrepreneurs kick start, grow, and strengthen their business by providing them with tools and educational opportunities.

The mission is to support artists and makers in RiNo by encouraging entrepreneurship and collaboration, and providing the support and tools for creatives through educational opportunities. Artists will receive 60% of the sale of their work, with the RiNo Art District receiving 40% for store operations and other artists initiatives in the district.

The 600 square foot retail store is selling 2D art works, as well as ceramics, sculpture, jewelry, books, stationary, and other handmade gifts and home-wares. The store will also have a rotating inventory from our creatives as well as a place to purchase RiNo Art District & Crush merchandise. Additionally, RiNo Made will host a featured artist each month from the District on the main gallery wall in the store.

As part of the RiNo Made programming, the store will be hosting special events each month, including special exhibitions, seminars and workshops for creative entrepreneurs, and opportunities to learn new creative skills!
