As an experimental animator I am interested in how archival materials and found images can coalesce into poignant and surreal cinema. Specifically, my work is categorized as ‘moving collage’, taking the process of traditional collage into the realm of moving image by manipulating still image cut outs and backgrounds through animation and effects. “Full Color Colorado” is an experimental animation inspired by the Silos Mural Project in Antonito, CO. Here a set of silos in the middle of Main Street are painted with portraits of figures who had a hand in building the foundation of this small but dynamic southern Colorado town. For Side Stories I wanted to create an animated version of the silo project right here in Denver. This piece is an homage to the diversity of experiences that make up the history of our great state. Using historical images from the Internet Archive and the incredible digital collection of the Denver Public Library, figures of Colorado’s past, present, and future are brought to life on Great Divide's White Tower.
