Plinth Gallery presents an exhibition of new ceramic work by curator and longtime ceramic artist Jonathan Kaplan.

With a career spanning more than five decades, Kaplan has built an internationally recognized practice as an educator, designer, author, and maker. His newest body of work reflects a lifelong exploration of form, structure, and craftsmanship, drawing inspiration from architecture, geometry, and the systems-based thinking of Christopher Alexander’s A Pattern Language.

Working through slip-casting and hand-assembled construction, Kaplan creates ceramic forms built from multiple interconnected parts. Each piece balances precision and experimentation, combining strong architectural structure with thoughtful design and impeccable craftsmanship.

This exhibition continues Kaplan’s ongoing fascination with teapots—reimagining the familiar functional object through both traditional and abstract interpretations. The resulting works invite viewers to consider ceramics as both utilitarian and sculptural, rooted in history while continuously evolving through contemporary practice.

Known for presenting contemporary ceramic art from leading national and international artists, Plinth Gallery is proud to showcase Kaplan’s newest work in this special exhibition.
