ABOUT

Since the mid-1990s, artists Brandon Opalka and Adam Vargas, also known as Atomik, have had a significant impact on South Florida’s street culture. Atomik’s iconic orange character—originally inspired by Obie, the former Orange Bowl mascot—can now be spotted on walls around the world. He has redefined the symbol through relentless painting, both legally and illegally, embodying the rebellious spirit of graffiti.

This exhibition marks the duo’s first show at Alto Gallery, featuring collaborative works alongside pieces from their solo practices. Opalka’s embroidery is deeply rooted in his graffiti background, with textures and colors echoing wildstyle lettering. His visual language blends personal experience with a thoughtful study of art history, resulting in vibrant canvases composed of airbrush and yarn. These works reflect a dystopian sensibility and concern for shifting urban landscapes.

Both artists share a belief that some rules are meant to be broken—and that the meaning of life is often found in its memorial consequences.
