Robin Crofut-Brittingham: After the Flood

Robin Crofut-Brittingham's large-scale works on paper explore the tension between human civilization and the natural world. Drawing from mythology, speculative fiction, and current environmental concerns, her intricate paintings imagine alternative futures in which humans and nature coexist in a delicate balance. After the Flood continues her investigation into these themes, taking inspiration from flood myths across cultures-from the biblical story of Noah to the Mesopotamian epic of Gilgamesh.

In this series, Crofut-Brittingham envisions the flood as both a destructive and regenerative force. Instead of merely depicting catastrophe, she explores the possibility of renewal and rebirth, where nature reclaims its space and humanity adapts to its surroundings rather than dominating them. Her use of arched frames, reminiscent of terrariums or enclosed ecosystems, reinforces the idea of fragile yet self-sustaining environments. These pieces invite viewers to reflect on the delicate equilibrium between destruction and creation, urging contemplation of humanity's role within the larger ecological system.

Adonna Khare: recreate

Adonna Khare is a master of carbon-pencil drawing, creating immersive, surreal worlds populated by fantastically realized animals. Her meticulous, large-scale drawings blur the line between realism and imagination, offering glimpses into alternate realities where animals engage in deeply human-like activities.

Khare's work has been described as reminiscent of Audubon's precision yet infused with a whimsical, narrative-driven surrealism. In recreate, her new body of work, she continues her exploration of anthropomorphic animals and absurd juxtapositions-elephants supporting heavy burdens, alligators at play, creatures caught in the tension between humor and symbolism. Each piece is rich in layers of meaning, inviting viewers to step beyond the surface and engage with the deeper themes of human connection, environmental consciousness, and the weight of personal and collective histories.

A past winner of ArtPrize, one of the world's largest art competitions, Khare has exhibited widely, including at the Long Beach Art Museum, Yellowstone Art Museum, and Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. Her work has been featured in The Los Angeles Times, NPR, The Huffington Post, and Juxtapoz Magazine.
