After his passing in April of this year, Ahmad Jamal left behind a musical legacy that influenced many key players in the art form and changed our American Classical music itself. Born in 1930, he came up in an era of jazz in which virtuosity and speed were of great importance. To that world of density he brought a magnificent contrast; disciplined space, along with eclectic influences, incredible patience, and an orchestral style of playing that altered the concept of the piano trio. Now, 65 years after the release of But Not For Me at the Pershing in Chicago, this trio hopes to honor that spirit by carrying it forward with this performance in the dense and virtuosity-demanding year 2023.

Sonya Walker is a Colorado-born multi-instrumentalist who considers piano the sun in her musical solar system. She can be found playing several types of music in and around the Denver area. She has shared the stage with wonderful and spectacular people such as Greg Gisbert, Art Lande, Randy Brecker, and Roy Hargrove. This performance will be her Nocturne debut as a bandleader; you're invited, hope you can come!
