Plinth Gallery presents work by noted ceramicist Richard Burkett through September 28 at 3520 Brighton Blvd. The show includes a variety of his soda-fired porcelain works, both decorative and functional. The public is invited to view and purchase work during the September 6 First Friday Art Walk in Denver’s RiNo Art District from 5-9 pm and during regular gallery hours Thurs.-Sat. and 12-9 p.m. or by appointment.
Soda-firing is a process in which sodium-oxide (soda) is introduced into the atmosphere of a hot kiln where it interacts with the surface of the clay and the silica within it, to form a glaze on the work. Soda-fired ware can vary in surface and color, adding to its unique and varied aesthetic.
