Lane Meyer Projects is pleased to present High Strangeness, a solo exhibition by Denver-based artist Mark Farrell, opening Friday, 5/5/23 at 8pm to late. Featuring scenes including the Overlook Hotel, neon graveyards, and Farrell's haunted dream house, High Strangeness blends the line between classic horror and the suburban mundane.
Rendered in nostalgic, technicolor-hues tones, Farrell's macabre scenes are crawling with life. Born and raised in the suburbs, by necessity, Farrell's relationship with the everyday has shifted into the realm of the fantastical imaginary. Peering through windows or chain link fences, there is a voyeuristic quality to his compositions. In the privacy of the houses next door we see the average suburbanite: sorcerers, skeletons and the wingèd undead.
Devilishly silly and strewn with hidden gems, Mark Farrell's High Strangeness pokes fun at social convention through the metaphor of horror. Throughout works in the exhibition, Farrell assures and warns us that there is mischief afoot, in this life and the next.
