Boxyard Park becomes a reality with soft opening July 14th and Final Friday celebration July 27th
After several months of crowdfunding, fundraising, and volunteerism, RiNo’s pop-up park will open to the public for the first time on July 14th, with a Final Friday celebration on July 27th. The park, known as Boxyard Park, will feature a dog park, art, seating and tables, food trucks, and a variety of programming between now and the end of the year. The RiNo Art District is hoping this pilot activation leads to support from the city to adopt the park as an official part of the Parks and Recreation parks system.
“We are beyond thrilled to finally have this park fill a void of public space in RiNo,” said RiNo Art District President, Jamie Giellis. “This park posed so many exciting opportunities to try something new and really engage with our community to make it a reality.”
During the soft opening, visitors to the park will be treated to a free, outdoor yoga class by Fight Gravity Fitness. At the grand opening later this month, RiNo will partner with Final Friday for a celebration of the Park’s inception with live music, an art market, and food trucks.
Boxyard Park, which started with RiNo Resident Chris Riedl’s vision for an engaging community activation in the vacant flood catchment across from his condo, would not have been possible without community buy-in. The park is the product of community fundraising, local businesses donations, in-kind services and planning, and volunteer days.
“Our final volunteer day to paint the park’s mural, plant flowers, and finish up construction on the dog park and picnic tables is this Saturday,” said Boxyard Park Programming Director, Molly Pailet. “We are in the final stretch to get things finished up for the soft opening on July 14th.”
Folks interested in volunteering in the final push to finish the park can sign up online. Future programming of the park will include concerts, art installations, art classes, community markets, wellness and health events, dog park events, exhibitions and parties, and food and drink offerings.
