For our June and July exhibition, Plinth Gallery is pleased to present the work of ceramic artist Lauren Owens. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and maintains a studio practice in Denver Colorado.

Geometry has been part of every civilization to define spatial reasoning and it was the pervasive use in modern design that peaked Owens' interest. The angles, lines, and shapes matched with chromatic colors of the mid-century was her Ah-Ha moment. Her parent's fastidious nature and mathematical abilities had a marked influence on her ceramic work, in a very unexpected manner.

"I design useful objects that embrace the repetitions of form with clean lines and crisp angles. I make my own models and molds and I slip cast the pieces using a cone 6 white ware clay body pigmented with ceramic stains."

Plinth Gallery Curator Jonathan Kaplan considers "the artist's work a carefully designed and assembled collection of bold forms and bright colors that are easily approachable. I am pleased to present this work for our current exhibition."

Open First Friday in June and July. The exhibition will conclude on July 30. Gallery hours are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 12pm-5pm and by appointment. For further information, please contact the gallery at or call 303 295-0717
