This month’s featured artist is Cristina Rutter. Cristina is an intuitive, abstract expressionist painter. Her work as a graphic designer and photographer refines her eye for color and composition, and informs her painting process.

Each painting begins with a carefully considered color palette. After that, every move on the canvas is something new to respond to, and the painting progresses with a balance of wild abandon and practiced art principles. Her theory of art-making is that every painting has something to teach us, and if you haven’t learned anything, the painting isn’t finished.

Cristina’s latest series is titled Unstoppable. She paints in direct response to the unique punk/electronic music of female-led groups the X-Ray Spex, Le Tigre and Santigold; dancing, jumping and singing her paintings onto the canvas. The results are energetic, joyful and vibrant paintings highly inspired by these bold and powerful women.

Joining Cristina on this evening, will be Phil Stearns with some gorgeous new textiles and Greg Forber with his Angelic Suicide Girls series of alternative pin up models painted on recycled floorboards with Italian Renaissance flair.
