  • Tue, Jun 8, 2021 - Tue, Jun 29, 2021  6pm - 8pm Tuesdays

Grab the kiddos, a blanket and a snack, or grab some food from a nearby restaurant, and join us for some low-key suppertime art in the park!

Tuesday nights in June and August we'll be making a host of unconventional and totally cool interactive objects together, from sewing Frankenzombie stuffed animals to drawing the world's largest comic book- we'll be working in all types of mediums with art making for every age. Workshops are free with all supplies included, but you will need to pre-register. We will be practicing social distance protocols with lots of hand washing. Kids, teens and their adult friends are all encouraged to participate with individual and group projects. Pets welcome, and snacks and drinks will be available if you don't want to bring your own!

About the instructor:
Arts educator Shawn Bowman specializes in renegade art education creating humorous modern artifacts, workshop instruction and game design. Passionate about enabling creative communities, Bowman empowers students both young and old with hands on craft projects, literacy through comic writing and creating table top games.

June 8th: Frankenzombies
Be your own Dr. Frankenstein! We’ll be disassembling and re-hacking stuffed animals and adding our own fabric and notions to create two headed, muli-armed one-of-a-kind chimera creatures. You’ll learn some basic sewing skills and get to choose creatures from our thrift store zoo.

June 15th: Paint Chip Poetry
Rose Madder, Celestial Skies, Golden Hour... we’ll be combining colors and words to make visual and verbal poetry using paint chip samples from the hardware store. A cool project for any age even pre-readers, we’ll explore how different combinations of words and images influence language choice making abstract thoughts into a tangible art piece.

June 22nd: Temporary Tattoo Design
Join us and graffiti artist/graphic designer Wiser Oner as we make our own tattoo projects using transfer paper and airbrush techniques. We’ll be talking about the history of tattoo art and ways to develop your own unique style.

June 29th: Papercraft WOW!
For 2,000 years people have been playing with paper, and tonight is another step in this journey! We’ll be making gorgeous marbled paper, seed stationary that you can write on and plant in the ground, and have a friendly paper airplane and origami design contest.
